An Egyptian-born and international star, he began his career in Egyptian cinema of the 1950s then worked in international cinema creating immortal roles in Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Doctor Zhivago (1965), and Funny Girl (1968). Nominated for the Oscar, Sharif won three Golden Globe Awards and a César Award.
